The point on the left is peak 9928 ft. This trail is not well defined, but the lake can be reached with adequate map reading. One of the most beautiful mountain lakes I’ve seen! But it was also going to be the hardest, with not only some seriously steep hiking, but also what they call scrambling, and this one was a class 3 scramble, which I apparently didn’t know what exactly that was. It was a turquoise blue, green in areas, the rocks were a rusty orange, and the colors all together were incredible. It is about 15 miles north of the town of Carson. It was very hard, and very slick, getting closer to ice at this point. This is also 1.4 miles south of the Trapper Creek Conservation Center. Driving Directions: From Darby go south on route 93 about 4.5 miles and turn right on West Fork Road. Hiking Directions: The well-used trail goes south up the ridge to a viewpoint at Baker Point then heads west up through the forest to Baker Lake, a popular destination.
